Adult therapy
I offer short and long term treatment of distressing psychological symptoms. Common symptoms include attentional difficulties, debilitating anxiety or worry, lack of energy or motivation, overwhelming sadness and anger, feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, and psychosomatic symptoms.
These symptoms often emerge in response to life transitions, intergenerational family dynamics, identity crisis, difficult or traumatic past events, racial trauma, or the loss of a relationship.
An additional focus of my work with adults centers around issues of racial and ethnic identity, navigating interracial relationships, immigration related issues, and recovering from racist events or racist relational dynamics.
Couples Therapy
Child/Teen/Transitional Age Youth therapy
I offer play and talk therapy with children from the ages of 8 to 18. I have extensive experience supporting children with anxiety and depression like symptoms that can arise from school issues, home life dynamics (ie. parents separation), communication difficulties between parent/guardian caregivers and children, and negative social dynamics with peers. Oftentimes, issues of identity and belonging overlap with psychological symptoms. In addition, I have experience working with children who have gone through traumatic relationships or events and are having a hard time with every day functioning or are engaged in high risk behaviors.
Parent Consultation
Raising a child in today's world is complicated. Navigating mental health and school systems can be confusing and frustrating. Perhaps you are wrestling with one of the following:
Should I get my child assessed for ADHD?
How do psychotropic medications work with therapy?
Does my child need therapy?
What kind of therapy would be good for my child?
Why are assessments so expensive?
Is public or private school a better choice?
I have worked in a variety of clinics and schools, both in the public and private sector. If you are a parent, I can support you in finding the right solutions for your child's specific needs.
Asian Male Identity Groups
Asian male identity in the context of American social and professional dynamics is a complex situation. I offer therapy groups for immigrant and American born Asian identified males. This affinity space provides an opportunity to safely explore thoughts, feelings, and associations.
Music Improvisation and Exploration
Play an instrument but feel stuck? Perhaps you played an instrument as a child but quit and want to start up again? Want to learn how to play music with other people? I offer individual and group exploration of music as it relates to your inner world. I use my violin, voice, and guitar as modes of communication in this context.
Fees for all services will be discussed and can be negotiated in the initial consultation session.
Please note that I do not take insurance but can write a superbill for you to submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement.
